Garageband changed my life as a musician, because it is free with all the necessities & luxuries you need- and I am sure it will change yours too. Usually tools that are free, demand a lot of compromise on features as well as UI, but not GB- whether you are making a christmas jingle or releasing your first album, it has your back & everything you need. This tool is truly one of a kind & sometimes I feel like it’s not talked about as much as it should be.

Even though it is an apple-exclusive app, I still have always looked for ways to get it on my PC & luckily I was able to figure out the safest way out which was via VMWare.

Why GarageBand?

An app that truly does it all- learn, play, create, record, share. From learning my first song on guitar to mastering the keys. I have done it all on only garageband, it is limitless. So many of my favourite artists have made their most popular early hits on garageband & it’s free- I ask: why not?

Even if you are using instruments- go ahead, plug them in- choose your amp/ effects, record & release. It will work as an army for you.

My first project was a ringtone for my dad on father’s day, since then I became the designated jingle creator for our christmas cards.

Then I moved on to making the tunes & music that is stuck in my head, later compiling it with my voice.

As a starter software, GB is easy to use, very accessible but can expand to your needs.

This paragraph contains all the uses of GarageBand and what is it used by professionals for (like ringtones, mp3, composing songs, etc). 10 such different use cases.

Why VMware?

Why do I recommend taking the VMWare route?

New to the emulator & virtual machine sphere? I GET IT.

– Safety, peace of mind & ease. When I was an only PC boy, this app was the most trustable for me & IMHO still remains to be.

VMWare is basically a software that will create a different virtual machine in your computer, which means even if you’re on a PC- you can still make a mac bubble & have a virtual machine which is running on macOS!

– I find VMware to be efficient & safer than using cracked apps or trying to make any emulator work.

Now your VM is not emulating the CPU, but is emulating other things like disk controllers, so basically this is an OS emulator. Also, it can be removed or reset easily.

If you still have any questions, use the comment section my friend, type it out.

So, What are we doing in this process?

Using VMWare as an OS emulator- we are creating a bubble which replicates macOS, installing garageband and creating music for you- SIMPLE.

  1. Hello Joline, I would like to recommend the VMWare method to my fellow musicians, as that is what has worked for me. I have been wondering whether I should upgrade my macOS in VMWare now, as it took me a long time to figure out how to get this working but the new macos interface is really tempting. Can you please give some suggestions? Have you tried doing it.

    • Hello Alana, thankyou for asking me & knowing my name, I feel honoured. I tried upgrading my VMWare macOS one year back, because I was trying to make a little modern music jingles and beats- trying my hands on some cool music- I was able to do it. Although, I did feel comfortable in my normal OS only, would you like a guide on how I did it?
